Delivering Student Equity with a Next-Generation Campus

Teesside University London presented a blank canvas with the opportunity to deliver a modern, inclusive, and equitable student and staff experience that reflects hybrid learning in the post-COVID world. Andrew Gill (Deputy Director IT & Digital Services), Chrisina Jayne (Dean, School of Computing and Digital Technologies), and AWS discuss how a partnership of strong academic and technology leadership helped disrupt the traditional model of high-powered PCs on desks throughout the campus with innovative streaming technology and an equitable laptop/tablet scheme that enabled students to study and learn from a device, location, and time of their choice; complex applications including specialist design software are streamed directly to both staff and students. Student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, “The facilities are amazing, I enjoy how I can access resources from anywhere on any device and I don’t need to rely on physical hardware at home or on campus”. The new campus democratises access to high-powered technology for all students, reduces the carbon
