Case study: a collaborative approach to improve outcomes for prospective students at the University of Southampton
Chris Lockhart, Head of product and institution is University of Southampton.

At the University of Southampton we had a challenge where policy did not match the way prospective students were finding information. This created an issue for a number of teams and required careful alignment and working to very tight deadlines to deliver something of value to the university recruitment efforts as well as prospective students. In this short case study, Chris will discuss:

  • How we unlocked the value for the university and prospective students
  • The role of UX and working with other teams towards a common goal (admissions, academics, marketing, quality assurance, developers, UX disciplines etc.)
  • The role of communication

Case study University of Edinburgh
Akshi Kakar Business Analyst, Student Systems Partnership, University of Edinburgh

In her presentation, Akshi would like to present a case study from a recent project she was leading where she had the opportunity to incorporate stakeholder feedback via User Acceptance Testing (UAT) as well as improve information design via usability tests with students. Her motivation to present this case study has been through the nagging question - When are UATs and Usability Tests most appropriate in system design and development?

Better digital accessibility: Creating a global village
Ben Watson, Head of Digital Accessibility, UCL, David Goddard, Head of Digital Student Experience (Information Services Division), University College London, Gareth Davies, Stakeholder Engagement Manager, RNIB

RNIB and UCL will talk about the story behind their emerging partnership, and their common aspiration to unite and support the sector in its efforts to create more accessible experiences. With so many stakeholders internally to liaise with, and suppliers who have a "variable" interpretation of what it means to deliver an accessible product or service, it is a complex and muddy landscape out there that we're all navigating. We would like to share our vision for a "global village" where we all have access to high quality, shared resources which are robust and easy to use. We will share some early collaborations and invite those interested to join us in this communal effort!
