How Newcastle University's Learning and Teaching Development Service Responded to Generative AI: Challenges, Opportunities and Future Plans

Terry will share a response to the rise of AI and how an institutional approach has been designed and delivered. How principles for the use of AI were established and the impact of these on student policies will be discussed. Terry will highlight colleague engagement tools that have increased awareness of AI and helped to ensure that where AI has been integrated into teaching and assessment, it has been done so whilst seeking to maintain academic rigour.

 

Dimensions of Integrating Generative AI into Business as Usual at the University of Chester

ChatGPT was launched a little over a year ago. Since then, universities have had to grapple with what Generative Artificial Intelligence means for practice in teaching, learning and assessment. At the University of Chester, our AI and Assessment group formed with members from across the university, and got working swiftly to support colleagues and students. Laura and Katharine will reflect on their first year of GenAI work, thinking through different dimensions of activity, high, broad, deep and long, as we seek to integrate GenAI into business as usual approaches to university activity.

 

AI-Driven Learning Design: Learning Design Architect GPT

Becca will provide an overview of what a Learning Design Architect GPT is and give insight on its capabilities. Examples of learning activities and resources crafted by the GPT will be showcased, and experience will be shared on the technical, ethical and resource challenges posed. In addition, tactics for securing buy in from decision makers and aligning AI initiatives with broader education goals will be discussed.
