A data-driven approach to digital upskilling
Katie Steen and David Weller, Digital Skills Leads, University of Exeter

At the University of Exeter we are producing an in-house Digital Skills self-assessment tool, which staff and students will use to identify their level of digital capability. Supporting the tool is an in-house Digital Skills library, which will automatically match users’ needs with relevant resources; ranging from short micro-learning videos to longer internal asynchronous training courses. An institutional dashboard will give managers and senior leaders within the University an overview of their team, department or an organisational level of digital capabilities, so they can make data-informed decisions in the University’s digital transformation journey.

Identifying digital capabilities needs at the University of Reading
Kim Coles, Digital Capabilities Officer, The University of Reading

The University of Reading is currently undertaking a project to understand staff and student digital capabilities needs, and propose an action plan to support future skills development . In this presentation, the University's Digital Capabilities Officer will outline the approach taken to gathering and requesting data to support the project outcomes, and to engage with existing support. It was essential to explore existing support delivered by professional services and academic colleagues across the University, and understand how staff and students were engaging with these offers, as well as conduct research. This presentation will explore the feedback and data gathered so far, the process of planning and implementing this project, and plans to evaluate and develop support in future.
