About the Event

ARU had manually administered a non-integrated assessment system for over a decade.  Through this experience, the affordances of technology-enhanced assessment were recognised.  ARU sought to leverage the automated integration opportunities available in its Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas, by embarking on an assessment-focussed digital transformation project.

The project integrated ARU’s Student Records System (SITS:Vision) with Canvas. This involved significant technical and process development, and support for the cultural evolution. The project delivered meaningful improvements for students, offering an automated, integrated, and consistent assessment experience; gave academics tools and direct control of their assessments; and resolved the previous administrative burden.  The solution has automatically managed processes that could have taken over 100,000 administrative hours.

The work has been recognised internationally, with conference invitations and requests to work with other universities to bring about transformational change, which they had not thought possible. The Project won UCISA’s Transformation Award in 2024, 1EdTech's Learning Impact Europe Awards 2024, and is currently a Finalist in 1EdTech's Learning Impact Global Awards 2025.
