About the Event

Empowering Innovation: Women Shaping the Future of Technology

With technology seemingly moving at pace at the moment, the conference will showcase how women are contributing to and using the current wealth of technologies at our disposal and how we can improve these technologies going forward. There are so many opportunities for innovation within further and higher education, and we want to hear from the women leading the way!

Whilst AI is immediately on everyone’s lips, whole other clusters of technologies are emerging e.g. immersive technologies; automation; internet of things and smart campuses; ways of maximising social media and collaboration tools; data insights and data-driven decision making etc. However, as we know, the rapid rate of change can also bring challenges: governance and data protection; cultural changes; ethical and moral issues; trustworthiness and those can intertwine with being a woman.

We’d really like to hear from speakers around these topics. To give you some inspiration here are some suggestions around Women Shaping the Future of Technology but feel free to suggest others:

How are we using technologies

  • Where are you using these newer technologies in your institution?
  • Have you used technology to help with issues at your institution such as financial, recruitment, workload or time-saving problems?

Benefits and using our influence around new technologies

  • Are you using technology for the benefit of women?
  • With more women in leadership within IT and institutions, has this lead to cultural changes especially around the use or implementation of technology?
  • Even if you are not in leadership, have you or can you influence policies around AI and other technologies?

Challenges facing us all but in particular, women

  • Have you had or researched negative experiences of these more cutting-edge technologies?
  • How have you or your institutions approached dilemmas such as governance, data protection and cultural change?
  • Does your AI have a moral compass? Tackling ethical problems such as plagiarism, misinformation, racism, misogyny and violence across all technologies.

Should you or a colleague have an idea in mind for presentations or small workshops that covers one of these topics, please complete this form

The deadline to submit a proposal is Friday 21st February 2025.
