About the Event

Design systems - what are they and is your institution ready for one?

Design Systems are growing in use in HE, enabling us to embed user-centred design in order to create higher quality, more coherent digital experiences.

This session will be an opportunity to hear from and ask questions of our expert panel about what Design Systems are, what they're not; the pros and cons, how to get started and who in your organisation needs to be on board before you begin.

Our panel will include Brad Frost, Design System Consultant and author of Atomic Design,  Ciandelle Hughes, Interaction Designer with the GOV.UK Design System team and Design System creators and advocates from several HE institutions.

More Info

I began my content design journey with the Digital User Experience team at the University of Southampton in 2020. Up until then, I had been managing the University's core social media channels and strategy, where I learned that listening to your audience is more important than talking at them.

Having experienced first-hand what a bit of empathy can do for a young, neurodivergent person struggling through their degree, I care deeply about making life easier for others. The best thing about this job is ending the day with a feeling that you did your part to help people do the things they've set out to do.
